Ise-Shima National Park is a national park that encompasses the Shima Peninsula in central Mie Prefecture and the surrounding area, which is roughly divided into two areas.
One is an inland area centered on Ise Jingu Shrine and the rich natural forest environment behind it. The other is an area along the coast, represented by the Rias Coast, with its complex topography and geology and numerous small coves and capes.
Compared to other national parks, the percentage of privately owned land is extremely high at over 96%, and because the park includes many areas where people live, it is characterized by deep contact with local life, history, culture, and customs, as represented by the Ise Shrine, women divers fishing, and pearl cultivation. It is a national park with beautiful scenery and a sense of the relationship between people and nature.
